Fitness Introduction

Many of our members have the potential to progress as basketball players well beyond the local league level at which we are currently competing. For this to happen, they must improve their basketball skills, concentration, strength and fitness.

The first two are assisted by the second two.
  • A strong player is more likely to make the game winning shot, rebound, steal or interception late in the game.
  • A fit player will concentrate better and for longer in training and games, so will gain advantages over the opposition or impress the selectors more.

Strength and fitness must be addressed throughout the week. Playing sport once a week is as much a recipe for injury as is playing sport seven days a week. The key is balance and avoiding stress, particularly on young growing bodies.

We're going to talk first about fitness, then ball handling, then shooting, then probably back to fitness. Before we post any suggested exercises though, we have to talk about Eating and Warm Up
