Hard PoundIn this drill, the ball should be coming up to around the shoulder and should be pounded into the floor. Pound is the operative word here. You are pushing the ball hard into the ground. Start with a good basketball stance (feet on squares 3 and 4 shoulder width apart, backside down, back straight) the right hand pound should have the ball bouncing a few centimetres outside the right foot. Players should do the same number right handed as left handed, probably no more than 25 at a time to start with, but the more able players will do several lots of 25 or set themselves to pound the ball for a minute. The hand should always be on top of the ball when in contact, so fingers are always pointing forwards. The next four drills all progress to one of the simplest basketball videos on YouTube One of the best warm up drills that you can do! from Breakthrough Basketball. The players in that video use some of these hand movements as they move between the cones.
